Navy League Memphis Spring Awards Dinner at Memphis Country Club

The Navy League Memphis 2014 Spring Awards Banquet was held once again at the Memphis Country Club on Thursday, April 17, 2014

All the Sailors of the Year from NSA MidSouth,  the Marine of the Year from the Marine Corps Reserve Center in Memphis, and the Coast Guardsman of the Year from CG Sector Lower Mississippi River, as well as the Spring awardees from the Navy ROTC units at the University of Memphis and Ole Miss were recognized.

 

RDML Steindl officiated during the distribution of awards as we saluted the "best of the best" in the Mid-South Sea Service units.   This year, the Memphis Navy League Council honored:

4 Midshipmen Scholarship awardees

2 Midshipmen Honor Graduates, one each from the Universities of Memphis and Mississippi.

1 Midshipmen of the Semester from Ole Miss.

4 Sailors/Marines of the Year - 2 Navy, 1 Coast Guardsman, 1 Marine

 

Over 100 military guests and Navy League members, and family members of the awardees, attended the annual gala.    Photos of the awardees are below.


                        

MIDN 2/C Joshua Brewster received a Memphis Navy League Scholarship Award. The award was presented by RDML David Steindl (r) and CAPT Brad Mai


                               

Memphis Navy League Scholarship Award was presented to MIDN 3/C Tyler Johns by RDML Steindl and CAPT Mai


                        

Memphis Navy League Scholarship Award was presented to MIDN 4/C Samuel Lootens


                         

      MIDN 2/C Michael Parker received a Navy League Scholarship Award.


                         

The first of two Memphis Navy League 2014 Sword Awards was presented by CAPT Brad Mai to University of Memphis NROTC Honor Graduate MIDN 1/C James Zaken.    These valuable swords are presented in recognition of years of hard work culminating in recognition of the recipients as honor graduates for their respective schools.   The Ole Miss Honor Graduate for 2014 is Midshipman 1/C Andrew Snodgrass, pictured below.

                          


                          

         University of Mississippi Midshipmen of the Semester Award

was presented to MIDN 4/C Nathaniel Williams.


HM1 Francisco Silva was awarded Sailor of the Year and PSSN Joanna Banda was awarded Bluejacket of the Year from the Naval Support Activity Mid-South.   They are pictured below.

                         

 

                           


                           

MST2 Derek Cameron received the Coast Guardsmen of the Year award from Coast Guard Sector Lower Mississippi based in downtown Memphis.   Petty Officer Cameron receives his award from RDML Steindl as his Leading Chief, YNCS Ron Chester, looks on.


                           

Last but not least, RDML Steindl presents the Marine of the Year award to SGT Derek Erickson of the USMC Reserve Center in Memphis.    Erickson's CO, Major Mitch Ball, and First SGT Marquis Young observe.
